The Opportunity
This newly created Human Resources Generalist role offers a unique opportunity to build hands-on HR experience in a science-focused, fast-growing organization. Reporting to the Senior Human Resources Manager, this position plays a key role in supporting JMIR’s growth by delivering high-quality recruitment, onboarding, and core HR administration.
This is an ideal role for an early-career HR professional who is energized by recruiting, enjoys working in a dynamic environment, and wants exposure across multiple HR disciplines while being mentored by a senior HR leader.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Talent Acquisition & Recruitment
Manage full-cycle recruitment for assigned roles, with a primary focus on Operations positions
Partner with hiring managers to understand workforce needs and develop effective sourcing strategies
Draft and post job advertisements across multiple platforms; support employer branding initiatives
Screen candidates, coordinate interviews, conduct reference checks, and prepare employment offers
Maintain accurate recruitment records within the HRIS (Humi) and Applicant Tracking System
Assist in the development and ongoing maintenance of job descriptions
Support hiring initiatives related to company growth and workforce planning
Orientation & Onboarding
Coordinate and deliver new hire orientation to ensure a positive and consistent onboarding experience
Prepare employment agreements and new hire documentation; ensure timely completion of required paperwork
Set up new employees in the HRIS (Humi) and coordinate with internal stakeholders to ensure operational readiness for start dates
Serve as a key point of contact for new employees during their initial employment period
Benefits Administration
Administer employee benefits programs, including enrollments, changes, and terminations
Respond to employee inquiries regarding benefits coverage, eligibility, and processes
Support annual benefits renewal and open enrollment activities
Maintain accurate and confidential benefits documentation
Payroll Administration Support
Support payroll processing for Canadian (Payworks) and U.S. (ADP) employees in collaboration with Finance and the Senior HR Manager
Assist with time and attendance tracking, payroll data entry, and reconciliation
Respond to routine payroll inquiries and help resolve discrepancies
Maintain payroll-related records within HR systems
HR Administration & Support
Maintain accurate employee records in the HRIS, including new hires, employee changes, and terminations
Ensure data integrity and confidentiality across HR systems
Support HR reporting, metrics tracking, and documentation
Maintain organized and confidential employee files
Prepare employee documentation such as employment verification letters
Support compliance with employment standards legislation and internal policies
Participate in HR initiatives and continuous process improvements, including leveraging AI tools to enhance HR processes
Provide day-to-day HR support to employees and managers, acting as a point of contact for HR policies and procedures
Qualifications
Education
Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related discipline
CHRP designation (completed or in progress) is considered an asset
Experience
2–3 years of progressive experience in an HR Generalist, HR Coordinator, or recruitment-focused HR role, preferably within a small to mid-sized organization
Demonstrated hands-on recruitment and talent acquisition experience, including sourcing, screening, and coordinating interviews
Experience supporting benefits administration and payroll processes is an asset
Technical Skills
Proficiency with HRIS platforms and Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS)
Strong recruitment capability, including candidate sourcing, assessment, and coordination
Solid working knowledge of Google Suites
High attention to detail and ability to manage confidential information with discretion
Legally eligible to work in Canada
