We are seeking an enthusiastic, outgoing, and service-focused recent college or university graduate (preferably from a health-related field), or an individual currently working as a research assistant, for the position of Editorial Assistant (previous experience working for a peer-reviewed journal required).
This is not a marketing, communications, or writing position. We are seeking someone with excellent administrative skills to coordinate the handling of scientific manuscripts for our peer-reviewed scientific journals, and to work closely with academic editors and authors in the medical sciences to ensure they have the resources they need. A university or college degree/diploma, preferably in medicine, science, information technology, library/information science, with demonstrated scientific experience and interests OR a combination of education and relevant experience
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to consistently meet deadlines
Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative
Sound, mature judgment, tact, and good decision-making skills
Proficiency with current office-productivity tools such as Google Docs and Sheets, Word, Excel, etc., as well as the ability to learn the organization’s web-based systems for communications and scholarly content delivery
Experience in peer-reviewed STM publishing is an asset
What you’ll be doing:
Assessing new article submissions to ensure articles are suitable in quality and scope
Monitor the review process of scientific articles, ensuring timely completion and sufficient follow-up with editors or reviewers
Support editors by providing information and resources, as well as reminders
Occasionally help with identifying and assigning peer reviewers
Provide user support through the Zendesk ticket system
Coordinate editorial board meetings
Assist Journal Managers in daily journal-related tasks
